Anyway, it's Wednesday again which means that people are linking up on Julia's blog for WOYWW again. I haven't taken part in aaaaages so I thought I'd get back into the swing of blogging again by showing you my desk. Or rather my whole room. I'm feeling like I need to shame myself publicly by showing you in all it's horrific glory. Maybe that will get me to actually go do something about the mess and sort it out!!!
Now, don't go screaming and running away.... okay?
On my desk is the remains of the stuff that got dumped after my new catalogue launch. The cutting mat which went downstairs for the event has made it back upstairs, but not actually back onto the desk. Unfortunately I actually need to clear the whole desk to put the mat back on. Sigh....
This is the rest of the room. As you can see, there's an awful lot of stuff that has just been dumped. And hubby has decided that the spare bed is an ideal place to put clean washing. Er, no! Clean washing goes back in the drawers please!! People have just started using the clothes straight out of the piles instead of putting it away first. All the boxes are from recent orders and they're waiting to be used for shipping ebay sales out to winning bidders. We've decided to clear out and sell some of our clutter, so far a pushchair and baby car seat have been sold. Neither of which needed boxes!! In the boxes in the foreground are all the stamp sets that got discontinued with the new catalogue. All 28 of them!! Ouch. I'm keeping a few of them for personal use simply because I like them, but the rest will also be sold off. What you can't see in this picture is the top of the chest of drawers or the windowsill. There is yet more gubbins piled on top of both of them!! I really must get this room sorted now, it's really frustrating me.
Do you find you can craft in a mess? Do you like things piled around you? Do you not mind the little snippy bits and the dribbled ink/paint all over your desk?? I don't! I feel like I need to tidy up BEFORE I do any crafting. Unfortunately that means that I'm always tidying and very rarely actually doing any crafting. Let me know about your mess/tidy crafting preferences in the box below!! Or even better, take a photo and come link up over on Julia's blog so we can all take a look.
See you soon and thanks for leaving a comment
Is that a mess?
ReplyDeleteI am odd, I like my desk to look used, to have paint stains, ink marks, bits of embossing and will use sandpaper to remove anything sticky without worrying about the look of a sanded patch. However I have specific things that stay on my desk and I like to tidy everything else away after each project or two. I like space to put a project down and work on it without knocking things off or loosing things. So, I think a bit of both - controlled or designed mess maybe!
I craft better in partial mess, but sometimes I get to overload point and can't bear to look at it any more - but then I can't be bothered to tidy it, so no crafting gets done til I do!
ReplyDeleteYour desk doesn't look too bad to me lol lol!!

Oh, I'm with you definitely - I cannot craft in the middle of mess, it makes me cross!! Tidying up is not a waste of time cos the end result is soooo good for the crafting soul :D

Hi. I don't mind my desk looking used, but when I have finished a project I like to clear every thing away before I start something new. And as I said in my blog, having a cat (or four to be more accurate) does galvanize you to clear up regularly. Hope you have some successful sales on ebay. It does seem to be a good way to get rid of some of the 'gubbins'. (I haven't heard that word since I lost my dear mum some twenty years ago. It was one of her favourites.)Kate x
ReplyDeleteCan I recommend the sweep technique for your desk - requires one empty box and a long arm sweep. Then put it back together again once the mat is replaced! Our clean washing starts on our bed, goes on to the floor, then gets put in relevant piles on top of drawers and eventually makes it away into the proper place - works for us! Well its that or no crafting for an hour....
ReplyDeleteoh Anthea shall I travel up and help you? I love organising craft rooms and finding bits I never had etc.
ReplyDeleteGood luck and will certainly be back to she the finished result x x
I can't craft in a mess, although I can make a mess when I'm crafting and at a pinch I can push it to one side if I need to do something quickly, but in general, I can't live with it in a messy state! Hope you can get it cleared up, it's a good feeling of achievement to get it done!

Ah Anthea, good to see you! And I always find if you're at the point of frustration, then you can kick in and really get it done, for as long as it's not driving you mad, it's lived with. Made m,e laugh when you mention your hubby leaving clean washing on the bed...the suggestion being that he might have been involved in doing more than carrying it to the bed...I don't think my DH has ever, in 26 years, been involved in such things!
ReplyDeleteWow. How much stuff? You'll get it cleared up one day. What's the rush?
ReplyDeleteLOL I don't choose to craft in a mess but I do! I start off being tidy then before I know it my stuff is everywhere! All over the living room floor & the spare room! It's even starting to creep into the dining room! ROFL well I would if there was space!

no, not a mess...well, maybe a bit! I need to tidy, really really bad! I was going to say snap, got that and snap got that too...Ikea?? Have a fun week, Happy WOYWW

The mess will always be there! Once you clean it up and get busy crafting ....there it is again! AT least you have a spare room!
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you back Anthea! It is hard to get going sometimes isn't it, when you are feeling low. I'm never sure how I feel about mess - it means I am being creative and "doing" so it is good but a clear desk is also a lovely way to start.
